From Wiki:
“Blessed Assurance” is a well-known Christian hymn. The lyrics were written in 1873 by blind hymn writer Fanny J. Crosby to the music written in 1873 by Phoebe P. Knapp.
History
Crosby was visiting her friend Phoebe Knapp as the Knapp home was having a large pipe organ installed. The organ was incomplete so, using the piano, Mrs. Knapp played a new melody she had just composed. “What do you think the tune says?” asked Knapp.
“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine”, answered Fanny Crosby.
The hymn appeared in the July 1873 issue of Palmer’s GUIDE TO HOLINESS AND REVIVAL MISCELLANY, a magazine printed by Dr. and Mrs.W.C. Palmer of 14 Bible House, New York City. It appeared on page 36 (the last page) with complete text and piano score, and indicated it had been copyrighted by Crosby that year. It is not certain that this was the first printing of the hymn, but it certainly helped to popularize what was to become one of the most beloved hymns of all time.
Because of Crosby’s lyrics, the tune is now called “Assurance”.
Based on Hebrews 10:22
vs.1
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
vs.2
Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
(Refrain)
vs.3
Perfect submission, all is at rest!
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with his goodness, lost in His love.
(Refrain)

I’ve been working on some of Jimmy Raney’s fingerings, and overall technique from a video I found on Youtube.
My good friend and colleague Mark Shark has a new book. It is literally his life’s work. I have many fond memories of hanging and working out the transcriptions for this book. There is so much unexplored harmonic territory waiting on those pages. It’s another world once you twist those keys and this book IS the roadmap.
Check out other comments:
“Deeply connected to the entire universe, The Tao of Tunings is beautiful… Mark Shark has created a book of tremendous value for anyone interested in thinking, felling , or playing in alternate tunings.”
-Jackson Browne
“I love Mark Shark’s playing… he’s crafted a very cool and clear book about the soul and wonder of alternate tunings.”
- Bonnie Raitt
“This book is great and it is timely. It is the best book I have seen about alternative tunings”
- Jerry Hahn (professor Wichita State University)
“All you need to get it is to hear Mark play. His musical examples alone will inspire you to pick up your guitar and start twisting the tuners.”
-Keith Wyatt (Guitarist for the Blasters and author for Hal Leonard)
My wife says I’m a poster child for California. She maybe right. So I’m sharing a few shots of home because I do love it here.
Palos Verdes Sunset. Surfing and hanging in P.V. changed me a little. Walking a dirt path surrounded by wildflowers ending in groomed 5ft waves with no one out makes for some good soul searcing.
A shot from the TV show “the O.C.”. Ironically it’s filmed in Redondo Beach (L.A. county). That’s Torrance Beach down below, where I learned to surf.
the Rivera village is my favorite place to eat and shop and work. I teach there 5 days a week.
Sometimes my gigs decide what I’m going to work on and/or listen to daily. For the past 2 weeks the gigs called for heavy ’surf guitar’ and in the process of researching my role I found a some gems, my favorite of which is Duane Eddy. Have a listen.
The guitar solo. The ‘junk”that every Meth fan wants. Ahh the chromatic little ’shifty bits’. All kidding aside I worked on this for a long time and with some help from one of the best set of ears on the planet (Neil Laferty - http://neillaferty.com/) I think it’s legit.
